Alabama Sheriffs Association's swearing in ceremony of new President
On March 12, 2025, Sheriff Billy J. Murray of St. Clair County was sworn in as
President of the Alabama Sheriffs Association.
Sheriff Murray is a 32-year law enforcement veteran. He began his career at the
Springville Police Department in 1992 and then joined the St. Clair Sheriff's Office
in 1996. Sheriff Murray previously served as the Assistant Sheriff and
Undersheriff before being elected Sheriff in 2018. He is a graduate of the
National Sheriffs' Institute and the FBI National Academy. He also currently
serves as the President of the FBI National Academy Associates, Alabama
Chapter, and the President of the Alabama Sheriffs Foundation.
He has served on many boards, including the Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama
and the St. Clair Health Care Authority. He is the Past President of St. Clair Day
Program, St. Clair FOP, and St. Clair Children's Advocacy Center. He is a member
of the Rotary Club of Pell City and is a graduate of Leadership St. Clair County.
He and his wife, Cristy, have been married for 28 years and have one daughter,
Brooklyn.
Sheriff Murray stands on the premise, "A Sheriff must be heavily involved in the
community he serves."
