Fourth of July Safety Tips
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office wishes you and your family a safe and exciting Fourth of July holiday! As you celebrate with friends and family, we want to remind you to prioritize safety and take precautions to protect our community. If you are traveling during the holiday, always wear your seatbelt and never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Plan for a designated driver to ensure you get home safely. Driving impaired not only endangers your life but also puts other drivers and passengers at risk. Additionally, please remember that fireworks can pose serious fire and safety hazards.
After using fireworks, to prevent any trash fires, douse the spent devices thoroughly with water from a bucket or hose before disposing of them.
Here are some important safety tips when using fireworks:
- Always read warning labels and performance descriptions before lighting any firework.
- Check that fireworks are legal in your area before purchasing or using them.
- Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby in case of fire or an accident.
- Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks.
- Never position any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse, and move to a safe distance immediately after lighting them.
- Only light fireworks one at a time.
- Use fireworks outdoors, away from buildings and vehicles, and never point or throw them at anyone.
We hope you and your family have a fantastic Fourth of July holiday!
