Drug Arrests

On July 10, 2024, the St. Clair County Drug Enforcement Unit was assisted by the St. Clair County SWAT team, Sheriff's patrol, the Pell City Police Department and the Ashville Police Department in executing narcotics search warrants in the Ashville and Steele areas of St. Clair County. St. Clair Drug Enforcement made two arrests on persons who were charged with distributing and possessing dangerous drugs and for possessing firearms during drug trafficking crimes. During this operation St. Clair Drug Enforcement recovered quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana, psilocybin, and multiple firearms.

In Ashville ANTHONY SHANE STASKO was arrested and charged with:

• Ø Two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance (methamphetamine),
• Ø Four counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine),
• Ø One count of certain persons forbidden to possess firearms.

 

In Steele JONATHAN EDWARD BENOIT was arrested and charged with:

• Ø Two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance,
• Ø One count of unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd degree,
• Ø Two counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia,
• Ø One count of unlawful possession of marijuana 1st degree,
• Ø Two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
